Gary started his playing career at the age of 7 in Southern California where he grew up, playing his club soccer in the OJSC Coast Soccer League (CSL). He went on to play nine seasons winning multiple League, League Cup, and State Cup Championships. Playing for his high school also earned him three varsity letters and was named twice to the All County Team.
After high school, Gary went on to become the starting goalkeeper for the first division Cosmos FC based in southern California for the next five seasons, leading the league in saves and shut outs, and competing in multiple regional and national tournaments.
His coaching career began in 1991 when he was asked to coach his high school alma maters boys’ varsity team. Under his guidance, the team went on to have 3 successful seasons winning two league championships and a trip to the semi-finals of the CIF (California) state championship.
Moving to Arizona in 1995, he was selected as the starting goalkeeper for the “Arizona Phoenix” in the USISL, MLS 2nd division where he lead the league in saves and was awarded the team’s Most Valuable Player Award.
Combining his coaching knowledge and over three decades of playing experience, Gary has developed and implemented a vigorous, proprietary age specific goalkeeping curriculum that is continually evolving to meet the needs of youth goalkeepers of all ages, experience, and skill levels. He has previously overseen goalkeeper instruction for multiple youth clubs in southern California and Arizona, and is currently the Director of Goalkeeping at the United Soccer Academy based in Phoenix, Arizona. Gary also holds a USSF “F” license and a concussion certification.
